Marilyn Krieger, noted Certified Cat Behavior Consultant known as The Cat Coach, is an internationally recognized cat behavior specialist, offering both on-site and telephonic consultation sessions throughout the world. Marilyn works directly with clients as well as through veterinarian referrals. Her intelligent, capable advice solves diverse behavior problems for all breeds of cats.
Thousands of cat lovers are familiar with Marilyn through her monthly column for Cat Fancy Magazine and its website, catchannel.com, where she serves as the resident cat behaviorist. She also contributes articles to such popular publications as Cats USA and Kittens USA. Recently, an article Marilyn wrote for Kittens USA was the recipient of the 2010 Cat Writers Association Purina® Kitten Chow® award.
Additionally, her book, Naughty No More!, has won numerous awards including the Tidy Cats Feline Behavior award and Muse Medallion in the Cat Writers Association 2011 Communication Contest and the 2012 About.com Readers Choice Award for best cat behavior book. Naughty No More! focuses on changing unwanted behaviors through clicker training, environmental management and other positive reinforcement techniques.
Marilyn frequently guests on television and radio programs, providing valuable tips and insight on how to improve cat behavior. Recently, she was featured with her cats on Animal Planet’s Cats 101, showcasing clicker training and talking about cat behavior. Her expertise also has received attention in USA Today, the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, MSNBC and with other media outlets such as KGO radio, ABC and CBS.
She has earned the respect of her peers and is asked to contribute articles to prominent professional journals, including Catnip, the Tufts University publication, and Animal Behavior Consulting: Theory and Practice, the IAABC journal.
Marilyn is a sought-after guest speaker, who often demonstrates her training techniques by showcasing shelter cats during her lectures and workshops. Among the many presentations she gives each year, Marilyn spoke at the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters during their annual conference in 2012.
Additionally, The Cat Coach, LLC® offers in-person and online seminars and cat behavior classes. She teaches cat behavior telecourses for companion animal professionals through Raising Canine, a respected professional training organization. She also offers a cat behavior webinar through the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).
Marilyn is acknowledged as one of the foremost behavior experts on Bengal Cats, domestic cats that are descendants of Asian Leopard Cats, and spearheads coordinated rescue work in California for these beautiful felines.
Based in Northern California, Marilyn donates her expertise to the Peninsula Humane Society, which has honored her for her efforts to keep cats from being surrendered unnecessarily due to fixable behavior problems.
Marilyn, a graduate of University of California, Davis and San Jose State University (MA), is certified through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. She chairs the Cat Division and is a former member of the board of directors of the IAABC.
